Maxwell’s two South Africa concerts, set for August 2026, have been cancelled after his management team determined he could no longer travel to the country for the planned shows. The decision followed discussions between Maxwell’s representatives and Vertex Events, the local promoter responsible for organising the tour.
The two performances were scheduled for 8 August 2026 at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria and 11 August 2026 at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town. Vertex Events confirmed that both parties had explored potential solutions before reaching the cancellation decision, including the possibility of rescheduling within 2026. No viable alternative could be arranged due to circumstances beyond either party’s control.
Vertex Events characterised the outcome as a mutual and professional resolution, stressing that neither Maxwell nor the promoter breached their contractual obligations. Both sides had exhausted available options before proceeding with the cancellation. Substantial preparation work had already been completed by that point, with venues secured and technical production and event logistics fully arranged.
Maxwell addressed the situation directly. “Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I’m unfortunately no longer able to perform in South Africa as planned. This decision wasn’t made lightly. I sincerely apologise to everyone who was looking forward to the shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. I hope to be back with you all soon,” he said.
The refund process is now underway. Webtickets will contact customers directly to provide refund options and manage reimbursements for all purchases. Vertex Events has assured audiences that transparency remains a priority throughout the process.
Meanwhile, both parties have signalled their intention to work toward securing alternative performance dates in 2027, citing strong demand for Maxwell’s return to the country. The promoter and the artist’s management have framed the cancellation as an unavoidable development driven by circumstances neither could control, rather than any breakdown in their professional relationship.
What remains open is whether a rescheduled tour will materialise. Both sides have committed to exploring future opportunities, but no dates have been confirmed. For South African audiences who had already secured tickets to what were expected to be sold-out nights, the question of when, or whether, Maxwell will eventually take the stage in Pretoria and Cape Town is still unanswered.
