Corrections Policy — Insight Africa Reports
Insight Africa Reports strives for accuracy in all coverage of South Africa and the surrounding region. When we make mistakes we correct them promptly and transparently. This page explains how to report errors, how corrections are reviewed, where they appear, and our typical timelines.
How readers can report errors
Please report factual errors by either:
- Emailing [email protected] with the article URL and a clear description of the issue; or
- Using our contact form at https://insightafricareports.com/contact/ and selecting “Correction request”.
Provide the article link, the specific text or claim you believe is incorrect, and any relevant sources or documentation. We do not accept corrections via social media DMs as the sole channel.
Internal review steps
- Acknowledgement: We aim to acknowledge receipt of correction requests within one business day.
- Preliminary check: A duty editor verifies whether the concern is a factual error, a request for clarification, or an editorial/style issue.
- Verification: Reporters and editors review sources, interview subjects, and consult documents. When necessary, we contact the reader who submitted the request for clarification or evidence.
- Legal and safety review: If a correction involves potential legal exposure or personal safety, our legal team and senior editors will review before publication.
- Decision and edit: If a change is warranted, we update the article and add a correction note explaining what was changed and why. If no change is made, we will explain the reasons to the person who raised the issue when possible.
Where corrections appear
- Corrections or clarifications are added to the relevant article itself, typically at the top or bottom of the story, with a timestamp.
- Significant corrections are also summarized on this Corrections Policy page for transparency.
- When an article has been shared on social platforms or newsletters, we will update those posts where possible or add a clarification in follow-up posts.
Timelines
- Acknowledgement: within one business day.
- Standard factual corrections: generally resolved within 3–7 business days.
- Complex investigations, legal reviews, or cases requiring new reporting may take longer; we will keep the requester informed of progress.
Retractions and removals
We preserve the published record. Articles are removed only in narrow circumstances such as legal obligation or risk to a person’s safety. Retracted or removed content will be noted on this page and, where feasible, on the original article.
Our corrections process is guided by accuracy, transparency, and accountability. To request a correction, email [email protected] or use the contact form at https://insightafricareports.com/contact/.
